Printing & Mentorships
for professional designers
Hello! I’m Marie, the designer and founder behind August + White. I’ve spent the last 20+ years working in print and design, with the last 16+ years focused on weddings and events. I’ve always been a little obsessed with the details — beautiful paper, thoughtful typography, and the way a design feels when you actually hold it in your hands.
I’m a former letterpress printer, and while I absolutely loved it — the antique machinery, hand-feeding every piece, and the whole feeling of being in a letterpress studio; mixing colors was never really my forte. I know what I’m good at, and I’ve learned to leave that part to the experts. Ashley at @inviting is one of those people; she is incredible and handles all of my letterpress projects.
Over the years, I’ve found that I really love the behind-the-scenes side of the industry — working with other designers, solving the little production puzzles, and figuring out how to make a design translate beautifully in print.
what we print
Foil, blind letterpress (YES PLEASE), and embossing. Sculpted embossing is on my list for the future — it’s a bit complicated, and I want to get my bearings before diving in. We also do fabrication of engraved wood emblems, bar signage, and more.
We use the traditional foiling method, with each piece hand-fed into the press one at a time. It’s a slower process, but the result is beautifully refined. I especially love black, gold, and gunmetal — they’re timeless, classic, and just look incredible. We have a beautiful range of foil colors in-house, and if there’s a color that works with your client’s palette available from our vendor, we can custom order it.
I also like my foil to leave an impression, like letterpress. You should be able to run your finger across the piece and actually feel the detail rather than having it sit flat on the surface. For this, I particularly love working with 2-ply and handmade papers.
Crisp detail is really important to us, too. We don’t overprint. (Those little bleed lines you may have experienced with some of the larger printers? Not our thing.)
If you’re looking for a printing partner beyond letterpress, I would love to work with you!
Fabrication
I also have a wonderful laser machine, which cuts and engraves wood, velvet, leather, and most acrylic. If we can assist with fabrication for your project, we would love to help!
Frequently Asked
-
We strictly print for design professionals who use a graphic design program to create their work (such as AI, ID, Affinity, etc.). As everyone else, we require all artwork to be outlined.
-
Our house stock is Savoy, in 118lb and 236lb. I’ve been using this paper since I started my business, and it’s just far superior to print on than Lettra. It is available in Brilliant or Natural white.
For handmade, we use Porridge. No one beats them in terms of weight, and the pillow-like impression we get is incredible.
We also can print on Colorplan, Keaykolour, Gmund and Soho (including envelopes).
-
Based on availability, on average it is 2 - 3 weeks.
For some handmade paper colors, we may need 4 weeks, depending on Porridge’s inventory. You are welcome to book with us early so we can order the paper color in advance.

Yes, absolutely! I love working with other designers, no matter what stage they are in. Owning a business can be stressful, and it helps if you have someone to bounce ideas off of or just get a solid direction on how to find your ideal client. If you are interested, you can select it below and we will send you separate details.
